Arthur H Twells (1921 – 1996)
Arthur Twells was an Ulster based landscape painter. He was born in Nottingham UK in 1921 and was granted a scholarship to Nottingham College of Art at a young age. He went on to work in textile design before joining the Navy and it was during his Naval service that he travelled to Derry in Northern Ireland, a place he would later settle with his wife.
Twells held his first exhibition in 1953 and during the 1960’s his popularity grew when he opened a studio at Shipquay Street, Derry, He exhibited regularly throughout Ireland and the UK and enjoyed widespread popularity and acclaim for his landscape scenes.
