Henry Segrave French Grand Prix 1923

Oil on CanvasSize: 76x60cm -30x24"Framed Size: 101x85cm - 40x34"

A fine painting of significant historic importance painted in 1963 by the foremost British transport Artist Terence Tenison Cuneo OBE. The painting depicts the pivotal moment in the 1923 French Grand Prix when Henry Seagrave driving a Sunbeam overtook the troubled leading car of Carlo Salamano in a Fiat – Seagrave went on to take the win and in doing so he became the first British Driver in history to win a Grand Prix in a British manufactured car. Much historical information and background has been documented on this race and on Henry Seagrave himself who later went on to hold world land and water speed records. He was the first person to hold both records simultaneously and also the first man to travel in excess of 200 miles per hour in a land vehicle.

Sir Henry O’Neal de Hane Segrave was killed in a boating accident on Lake Windermere in 1930 whilst attempting to set a new water speed record.
